Mbarara Archbishop Paul Bakyenga blessed the facilities.  Guests toured the outpatient department, administration building and 60-bed in-patient wing, with all medical and administrative staff of the new hospital present.

HI Mbarara Chairman Dr. Placid Mihayo thanked the Mbarara community and HI board in San Diego for their tireless efforts to achieve this historical milestone.  A local Rotary club presented the hospital with a gift of ten wheelchairs.  Mbarara mayor Wilson Tumwine and District Resident Commissioner Clement Kandole spoke, pledging their support for the hospital.

Mbarara Archdiocese Chancellor Fr. Bonaventure Turyomumazima said that hearing the speeches and seeing the hospital open and ready to begin saving Mbarara’s children was “a very emotional experience.  Unbelievable.  So beautiful….”
