Subject: Want to help build the first children's hospital in Uganda?

I’m writing you today to tell you about an effort I believe in: building a children’s malaria hospital in Mbarara, Uganda. 

In Uganda, 1 child in 7 dies before age 5. In Mbarara District alone, 13,000 children under 5 die every year – thousands more ages 6 to 12. That’s like a jumbo jet full of children crashing every week…. Over 60% of these children die from malaria, respiratory infection and dysentery. These diseases are eminently treatable.  Children can be saved if hospitalization and treatment is available, but currently there is no children’s hospital in Uganda.

A non-profit called Holy Innocents Children’s Hospital Uganda is funding a dedicated hospital for the children of Mbarara.  It has an experienced team of business people, medical professionals and clergy in the US, all volunteering their time and working with a very capable Ugandan team of doctors, nurses, clergy and other professionals.  The Ugandan team is managed by the Catholic Diocese of Mbarara, which has an established track record designing, building and operating hospitals and clinics. 

Mbarara Diocese has already donated the building site for the children’s hospital.  What is needed now is funding to build and equip the first wing of the new hospital.
